HGMH Offers New Patient Menu
Patients have always enjoyed their meals at Glengarry Memorial Hospital, often sending rave reviews about the food quality. The organization has a strong team of dedicated Cooks and Dietary Worker’s who oversee the patient food preparation, they bring passion to their roles that support the dietary needs of the hospital’s patients.
This year HGMH is stepping it up a notch. A new patient menu has been launched and provides a six-week rotation, previously there was a four-week menu rotation. For those patients who are required to stay in hospital for an extended period, this will be a welcome change as it creates more variety before the cycle begins again.
“Food is an important component to the health and well-being of patients in our hospital. Balanced nutrition plays an important role in the recovery of our patients, bringing strength to their rehabilitation and hydration to support healthy body function. I am very proud of the Food Services Team and the role they are playing to support patient care at HGMH” said Robert Alldred-Hughes, President and CEO.
A few examples of new patient menu choices for breakfast now include mushroom spinach frittata, hot oat bran with flax seed, smoothies or cinnamon oatmeal. At lunch and dinner, a patient may see new choices such as ham and sweet potato jambalaya, parmesan crusted salmon with sunrise mixed vegetables, the list of changes is quite extensive, with added opportunities to enjoy varied deserts.
For the first time the hospital has introduced infused water to eliminate sugary juices. Not all patients like to drink water, so the team has included strawberry, cucumber and citrus infused water, just to name a few.
Louise Quenneville, Manager of Dietary & Housekeeping says “patients are reporting positive feedback to these changes. I have received feedback like ‘the food is really good and sometimes better than it ever was’. These changes are welcomed by the people we care for, and it’s all about providing excellent care for the patients here at HGMH”.
