New programs to help support care at HGMH

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) has been chosen to be part of Ontario Health’s Emergency Department (ED) Peer-to-Peer Program.

This is a provincial program that will provide 24/7 on-demand, real-time conversations, and consultations from peer ED physicians to aid attending physicians in the care of patients of all acuity levels and ages presenting to rural and remote Emergency Departments.

With one easy call, physicians at HGMH’s Emergency Department, can be virtually connected to a peer emergency room physician to discuss the care of a patient. The ED Peer-to-Peer program will also support rural and remote sites with the review of a clinical procedures, discuss emerging new treatments and medications, and debrief on a patient case.

“We understand that emergency physicians face unique challenges and pressures daily when working in rural sites that are not experienced in large urban hospitals. A peer physician isn’t always sitting next to you to discuss a clinical finding.” Said Robert Alldred-Hughes, President and CEO of Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital. “This new program will allow our emergency physicians to have this access. I am delighted that our team will now have simple and easy access to a clinical peer when caring for our patients.”

This program will complement the Virtual Critical Care Program being launched on April 3rd, 2023, through The Ottawa Hospital ICU where a physician and RN will be available for support through consultation in critical care for Eastern Ontario.

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care and supporting the professional growth of its staff. The Emergency Department Peer-to-Peer program, and the Virtual Critical Care Program are one of the many initiatives that the hospital is implementing to meet this goal.
