IHA Canada, Nurse On Board, and Alio Health are introducing a new approach to affordable senior living
Innovative Housing Alternatives Canada (IHA) is pleased to announce, in association with Nurse On Board and Alio Health, the commencement of the design and planning phase of "Shire", a new village concept designed to provide independent seniors housing alternatives to Eastern Ontario residents. The village initiative will be a model for senior living, offering affordable housing options where residents can remain close to health care and still live independently in the thriving community of Alexandria.
With the vision and support of Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH), IHA has started the process for obtaining all the necessary approvals for this innovative new development. During the planning phase, Nurse On Board and Alio Health will engage with the seniors of eastern Ontario to ensure the healthcare interests and needs regarding Shire's future residents are fully considered.
Over the next few months there will be presentations made at various open house events that will detail the types of housing on offer, including individual homes to apartment units, and the options available for additional care and support. Plans for a community hub to offer a variety of on-site amenities, recreational and commercial space will also be presented. Additionally, the project will include administrative offices that will support hospital administration and will free up space in the local hospital for more patient care.
The development of Shire, through a strong team approach will transform Alexandria into Eastern Ontario's leader in independent and affordable seniors housing, providing the most innovative designs, advanced technologies, and a cultural change that embraces person-directed health care delivery.
"This region has one of the highest populations of seniors in the province and very low availability of independent and assisted living facilities," says Corey Kalsi, HGMH Board Chair. "For the last eight years, our hospital has been working towards achieving a vision of a health hub for our community to address this issue. This partnership with IHA, Nurse On Board, and Alio Health presents an outstanding opportunity to achieve that goal."
Susan Hagar is pleased to have been invited to speak at the 'Seniors Symposium' on Monday, May 6, 2019 in Alexandria, Ontario, where she will provide an overview of the approach and innovation of Shire. For more information on the event, please email Alyson Graham at info@cedarwoodservices.ca or by calling 613-360-5512
As this project rolls out, Nurse On Board President Susan Hagar and IHA Canada President Will Ball will be offering updates on the project to community members. Anyone interested in finding out more information can connect with IHA Canada or Nurse On Board (contact information below).
