HGMH Announces New Chief of Staff
Having served six years in the role, Dr. Nadia Kucherepa’s term as Chief of Staff (COS) is coming to an end as per the Professional Staff Bylaws. Dr. Kucherepa has provided outstanding leadership to the Medical Staff and has been an engaged and valued member of the Senior Management Team. She will remain in her role as Chief of Staff until June 30th, 2022, and will then remain as Physician Lead for the Rehabilitation Unit.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Lisa MacKinnon as HGMH’s Chief of Staff effective July 1st, 2022.
Board Chair, Frank Wetering, said “Dr. MacKinnon’s energy, enthusiasm, dedication and her genuine personality, along with her strong leadership skills is ready to continue to grow our hospital’s role to ensure the quality of patient care for our community.”
Dr. MacKinnon grew up in Vankleek Hill and attended Queen’s University obtaining her Bachelor of Arts & Science Honours Degree in Psychology and Health Studies. After university, she attended Mohawk College in Hamilton and completed their Cardiovascular Technician Program with Honours. After several years of work including, on a Sports Development Internship with Commonwealth Games Canada, five years at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, one year as a Program Manager with Right to Play in Soroti Uganda, she returned to Canada where she worked two years with the Helitack Crew fighting forest fires in Lac La Biche and Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. She then returned to education, attending the University of Limerick in Ireland where she obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery in June 2014.
Dr. MacKinnon completed the Family Medicine Residency program at Dalhousie University, where she was Chief Resident and went on to work at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia for three years.
In August 2022, Dr. MacKinnon and her family returned home to Vankleek Hill and has since been practicing at HGHM in both the Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit.
Upon accepting her position Dr. MacKinnon said, “I am very excited and honoured to be stepping into the role of COS at HGMH. Through this position, I look forward to energetically and enthusiastically contributing to a welcoming, safe and collegial working environment which will be attractive to new staff. As well as strongly advocating for the health care needs of the patient population that I serve and the betterment of community patient care as a whole."
