Heart Monitoring Fundraising Campaign to Purchase Lifesaving Equipment

Heart Monitoring Fundraising Campaign to Purchase Lifesaving Equipment

On July 1, 2014, at the Elites Family Day, at Island Park, Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is launching its Heart Monitor Fundraising Campaign. All participants will have an opportunity to purchase a Teddy Bear at the hospital-hosted Teddy Bear Triage campaign launch at a special price of $5 (the Teddy Bears are regularly priced at $12 and $15). The purchase of a bear will include an x-ray of the Teddy Bear's heart, a Teddy Bear heart checkup, and an appointment card for the new addition to your family to return to have a follow-up heart check-up next year. All proceeds from this event will go directly to help purchase the Heart Monitoring System to be used in the hospital's Emergency Department.

"In the last three years, 900 patients arrived at HGMH with heart related emergencies that required heart monitoring. The hospital's heart monitoring system is ten years old and in need of replacement. Heart monitoring technologies have improved significantly in the last 5 years and our patients can benefit from this newer technology now available. More people in our area suffer from heart related disease than in other Ontario regions and the purchase of newer equipment will ensure we are best equipped to serve the needs of our community," says hospital spokesperson.

The Heart Monitor Fundraising Campaign will include a number of heart health conscious events in order to ensure the hospital meets its goal of raising $250,000 required to purchase this essential equipment. The kick-off to promote awareness will be during Canada Day, followed by upcoming events including:

  • Kilt Run - October 5, 2014
  • Guess Who is Coming to Dinner? - February 13, 2015
  • Bathtub Race - June 13, 2015
