$25,000 Grant Available to Eligible Nurses for a Two-Year Commitment to HGMH

$25,000 Grant Available to Eligible Nurses for a Two-Year Commitment to HGMH

Alexandria, ON – Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) received initial approval to provide $25,000 grants to nurses who have not been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six (6) months before the start of their commitment to the hospital begins. This opportunity has been made possible through the Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN) through Ontario Health.

The CCPN is a temporary recruitment initiative that offers Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs), who have a certificate of registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), a $25,000 incentive in exchange for a 24-month commitment to work at a hospital, long-term care (LTC) facility or home and community care agency in a high-need area of Ontario.

“The nursing shortages being experienced at HGMH has created significant staffing and operational challenges. Receiving this approval from Ontario Health to participate in this program is welcome and excellent news. Our focus is to recruit new nurses to our team, while creating a workplace that retains staff that we have.” said Robert Alldred-Hughes, President & CEO. “Our focus needs to be on increasing net new health care workers to our province, in particular here in Glengarry, so this opportunity is a welcomed addition to HGMH’s health human resources planning.” said Alldred-Hughes.

The CCPN is intended to mitigate the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on pre-existing shortages of nursing staff in Ontario hospitals, LTC homes and HCC agencies. This incentive is intended to attract nurses who are seeking employment to areas of the province where they are needed most. To avoid disrupting the current nursing workforce, the CCPN is not intended for nursing professionals who are currently employed.

“Any nurse looking to practice at HGMH is encouraged to apply. Our team of skilled and dedicated staff put our patients first. HGMH is a work environment where you matter, and we care.” said Kim Woods, Vice President of Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive. “The stabilization of our workforce at HGMH is incredibly important, it not only enhances the quality of care for our patients, but the work life balance we seek to provide by choosing a life in rural Ontario.”
