New volunteers are the key to our survival, and as such are warmly welcomed by the HGMH Auxiliary. Our various active programmes are carefully outlined, making it easier for any newcomer to choose the capacity in which he or she would prefer to volunteer their time.

For the younger set (students ages 12-17), HGMH Auxiliary provides a somewhat separate programme; one that is geared more towards learning about the medical profession. Under the direction of an Auxiliary coordinator, students provide assistance to the nursing staff six days a week. They help out during the evening meal, and provide companionship to the Long Term Care Residents. High school graduates who have worked as volunteers in this program are eligible to apply for two Auxiliary bursaries offered every year. Students who are interested in joining this programme may contact the Student Volunteer Coordinator at 613.525.2222 ext 4256.

Every year, volunteers donate over 17,000 hours of their time to Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital. Province-wide hospital restructuring and cutbacks in funding are some of the leading causes for the growing demand for health care volunteers. To inquire about becoming a volunteer at Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital, you may contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 613.525.2222 ext 4256.
